Coloring with Nuvo Alcohol Markers | Guest Design for the Hedgehog Hollow

Hey everyone! Today I'm sharing my first project for the Hedgehog Hollow. I used the largest floral stamp and colored it with the Nuvo alcohol markers. These are a fantastic marker option.

To learn more watch here or on youtube.

I started with the background using the pink toned paper that came in the August monthly kit. This is a lighter weight cardstock which is great for layering. I decided to ink blend Distress Oxides over the top. This gives you a more subtle color tone when you the Oxide ink blending with water. So if you don't have colored cardstock, white will work almost the same just the oxide effect (when the inks react to water) will be a bit brighter. This background was a lot of experimenting. I splattered the ink blend with water, heat set and then dipped it back into the ink on my mat. I also added more color and texture by splattering this piece with some Yellow Neon Aqua Pigment. This was also splattered with Copic Opaque white (similar to white acrylic paint) after the bloom was adhered. The video shows the entire process.

For the stamping I used the largest floral image from the Alex Syberia Large Blooms set. This was stamped with Gina K Amalgam ink using a stamp positioning tool to make sure I had a solid stamped image of this huge bloom.

I was really excited to try out the Nuvo pens and they did not disappoint. As always, like in most of my coloring, I started with the darkest green in the shadows and veins of the leaves. Then blended out going from the middle shade to the lightest. For the bloom though, I tried something a little different. I used the darkest Coral shade first then blended that out with the blender pen. This gave a watercolor kind of look and texture. I used the darkest coral shade on all of the backsides of the petals. On the other side of flower petals I used the lightest shade of coral. Repeating the same technique and adding in the middle shade in areas to make a smoother blend, from coral to white.

I added more color to this card with some navy blue cardstock. Trimming down my background layer over the top of the Navy and added both pieces to a Neenah Solar White 110lb cardbase. I also used one of the sentiments from the Alex Syberia Buds Stamps with clear embossing ink and powder to create a very subtle sentiment.

I hope you enjoyed this video and card design.
Thank you so much for joining me today!
