New Art Impressions Challenge | Shaped Cards

Hey guys! Ok, so I might have went with the most basic shape, rounded rectangle, but it is still a shape! Don't forget to check out all of the designers and see  their amazing examples for the new Art Impressions challenge, Shaped Cards!

For this one I knew I wanted to create a little scene using two of the three hedgehogs from the Hedgehog set. These guys coordinated pretty well with each other and I like that they look happy, like they are playing a game!

I've been wanting to bring in colored pencils with Copics lately. I used Amalgam ink to stamp the critters on to kraft cardstock. This set also has a few smaller stamps, I used those to decorate my scene a little more. The deflated ballon is stamped in two directions and I also utilized the edge of the cardstock to mask some of the confetti so it looks like more is scattered on the floor.

I started coloring by shading the scene with Copics in various W's and E's, as always colors used listed below. Once the shading was done I colored the images with colored pencils. This is a light shading effect but helpful for me when using colored pencils, I tend to loose my shadows easily.

I colored the quills on the hedgehog similar to the they way I colored the beavers fur in this blog post/video. I knew I was going to be using the green leaf cardstock from SSS so I was able to choose colors that coordinated well. Then that panel was trimmed down with the largest die from the Rounded Rectangle A2 Double Stitched set and since I already had it out I used the same die to cut a A2 card base and a piece of green leaf cardstock from Simon Says Stamp.

The one thing I wish I would have done was move the sentiment with the banners a little more to the right. I didn't want to center it on the card front. However, I was excited to see that the larger Flag Double Stitched die nestles inside the 3rd to smallest of the Banner Double Stitched die.

The flag die is cut from the green leaf cardstock to create a spot so that I could heat emboss the sentiment. I used the green cardstock as a guide to center the sentiment stamp. Versafine Clair in Nocturne and Hero Arts Clear embossing powder was used for the heat embossing. Now I can adhere all my layers together.

For the inside I kept it simple and used several of the same dies to layer with. I stamped the 3rd hedgehog, the one leaning on the cacti, with amalgam ink and colored the same as the others. The sentiment I used on the inside is another fantastic one from this set!
