If you follow me on Instagram ( Jessica_MayDay ) you might have seen a cute little watermelon that looked more like a pizza slice; an idea that did not go as planned. So this is the outcome of that experiment. Instead of a pizza watermelon slice I instead tweaked the idea for a whole watermelon ink blend panel. I like this better but I'm keeping the watermelon slice and throwing it in to my travelers journal.
Watch the video here.
I used a few stamps from the Simon Says Stamp July 2018 Monthly Card Kit. Link to the kit and separate items down below.
The watermelon blended background is inked with Distress Oxides. I started with twisted citron first and covered about 3inches of the cardstock. Then I went over the edge with Cracked Pistachio to darken that area and bring in more color. On the opposite side I blended picked raspberry right up to the green. Then added candied apple and blended the green into the red just slightly.
I stamped the watermelon from the July Kit twice in MFT Extreme black ink. Even though I stamped them on Neenah Cardstock I watercolored with Distress oxide inks in the same colors I used for the blending. In my experience Neenah 110lb cardstock will hold up with a very small/ quick amount of watercolor. Anything too saturated and it tends to break down the paper. I heat set them both so that they were dry and then fussy cut them, cutting right to the black stamped line.

To create the round edge, or rind of the watermelon, I used a favorite die of mine that I mentioned in the Ride or Dies video. I cut a scrap piece of black and white diagonal striped paper and adhered that to the bottom portion of a Neenah Solar white 110lb top fold card base. Then I layered the watermelon ink blend piece over those.
Using a newer glue to me, Nuvo glue pen, I added adhesive behind the letters of the vellum circle and attached that to the lower left. Then attached the two watermelons that I had fussy cut out with the same adhesive. As a last touch, I added white highlights to all the hearts/seeds with a Signo gel pen.
The inside is simply stamped with the watermelon stamp from the Simon Says One Cool Pineapple set and twisted citron Distress Oxide ink. Then added 3 hearts from the same set above the watermelon slice in Candied Apple.
