Layered scene with texture paste | Christmas card

Have you ever thought of a card and tried to make it more challenging while creating it? While making this card I decided, while covered in texture paste (OK a little exaggeration, but I do tend to get it all over my fingers.) that I would not use black ink or black cardstock.

You see, when I stamp an image outline my default is always black ink. If it's a shadow or silhouette I always tend to grab black cardstock first. Now I didn't go crazy with color but just replaced it with a dark gray. But I think just doing that little step helped to create a softer look. What do you think?

I enjoy creating and taking a step back and doing something I may not normally do and seeing the end result. Sometimes it just doesn't matter but sometimes I enjoy the outcome more.

I started with a piece of Neenah Solar white 110lb cardstock and blended 3 different colors of Distress Oxide to make the sky colors. I left the purple in the top right corner to help accent the moon. Letting it dry I gathered the cloudy sky stencil and texture paste. I used a Distress Oxide reinker to help color the moon a yellow color, I just had to be careful with my palette knife to not smear the yellow color everywhere into the white.

While the texture paste dried I used dies to cut the mountains, hills and Santa Claus/ reindeer silhouette. The mountains I used Kraft cardstock and then blended Distress ink to deepen the color and add interest.

The little car and tree image is so cute and comes from a Lawn Fawn stamp set. I used a dark gray ink to stamp images and colored them in with Prismacolor Premier Pencils. I do not have the dies for this but the images are simple enough to cut out plus I didn't want the white border that a lot of dies leave. Light and dark gray Copic Sketch markers were used for the shadow on the hill side, that the car is driving on, to add dimension.

I used a sparkle pen to add shimmer to the snowy hills and mountain tops. The stars and moon were layered with some shimmer too. A little glossy accents for the car windows and headlight and I was done.

I carried the blue and green colors from the car/ tree to the inside of the card. I really like how this turned out and it makes for a fun non traditional colored Christmas card.
